Why can’t I cancel my subscription when a renewal is in progress?
Subscription changes are locked while your renewal payment is being processed.
When your subscription is about to renew, the system begins processing the payment. During this time, your account enters a temporary locked state to prevent errors or conflicts while the renewal is underway.
When this happens, you may see the message:
“Your recurring payment is in progress. Subscription updates are locked until processing is complete.”
What does this mean?
Once a renewal payment has started processing:
-
Subscription changes are temporarily disabled
-
You cannot cancel, upgrade, downgrade, or modify your plan
-
The system completes the renewal automatically
This is expected behavior and ensures your subscription and billing remain accurate and error-free.
What if I tried to cancel but still got charged?
If you attempted to cancel during this locked state, the renewal would still be processed. The cancellation request cannot be applied until the payment finishes.
What happens next?
As soon as the renewal payment completes:
-
Subscription controls unlock again
-
You can cancel your plan from the Billing page
-
Cancellation will stop future renewals
-
Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period
How to avoid this in the future
If you plan to cancel, it’s best to do so before the renewal date shown on your Billing page, to avoid hitting the locked processing period.
